OUR MISSIONARIES

Our missionaries are based in Africa, Brazil, Cambodia, France, Japan, and Hawaii. They are engaged in evangelism, preaching and teaching, church planting, Bible translation, youth ministry, and international music ministry. All of these people and their ministries are motivated by the vision of spreading the gospel to the entire world.

MISSIONS/OUTREACH COMMITTEE Our Mission Leadership Team chairperson is Sofaia Cavu. Others on the team include Amy Knapp, Chris Rhoades, Mike Tamamoto, and Mei Ean Yeow.

Once a month we have "minutes for missions" during our worship service, in order to share the prayer needs of our missionaries. Each year in October our missions team and the Koinonia women's ministry, in cooperation with Mililani Missionary Church, sponsors the Missions Fair, a Halloween alternative. All proceeds from the fair go to the support of a missions project. Recently our congregation worked with Global Hope Outreach in a ministry of compassion, providing boxes of clothing and other supplies for needy people in Afghanistan.

We helped distribute evangelistic packets and the Jesus Film to all the High School, and Middle School and Elementary School students on Oahu through the "Jesus Hawaii Project." In addition we have an outreach to homeless people by serving with the "River of Life Mission" and the Honolulu "Institute of Human Services."

MISSION TO THE PHILIPPINES – 2004

TOTALLY IN CHRIST RUSSIA MISSION TRIP

In June and July, 2003, Dr. George Rhoades, founder of Totally-In-Christ (TNC), led a team of eighteen young people and adults on a mission trip to St. Petersburg, Russia in partnership with Operation Care Lift, a ministry of Josh McDowell Ministries. The team performed evangelistic presentations thirteen times in seven days and traveled hundreds of miles in Russia. They ministered in orphanages and local churches as well as street evangelism, drama, and Hawaiian Hula dancing. Many children and adults made professions of faith as a result of their ministry.

MCC SUMMER YOUTH MISSION MINISTRIES

In the Summer of 2003, a number of our young people had an opportunity to travel to the "Big Island" where they participated in the EFCA Summer Youth Camp at Kilauea Military Camp, followed by leading the Daily Vacation Bible School for Grace Community Church (EFCA).

Several of these youth also served as Summer Missionaries with Child Evangelism Fellowship and returned to Oahu to lead more Five-Day Clubs and serve as helpers in the Camp Good News program of CEF Hawaii. Others remained on the Big Island to lead Five-Day clubs in the Hilo area before returning home. It was a full summer of fruitful service for Christ.

YOUTH MISSION TRIP TO NEW YORK CITY

In 2002, seventeen youth and adults traveled to New York City to partner with the Second Evangelical Free Church of Brooklyn in a ministry of street evangelism and ministry to children through Daily Vacation Bible School. Our youth had the opportunity of living and serving in a truly cross-cultural setting, since the community where they ministered is composed of Orthodox Jews, Hispanic Americans, Chinese Americans, and Arab Americans. It was a life-changing experience for all of our young people.

CHURCH PLANTING ON MAUI

In 1999 we sent out our first church planting team to Maui, led by our former youth pastor, Jayson Saito. Maui Community Church is the newest church plant of the Hawaii District of the Evangelical Free Church. It is a joint effort of the entire Hawaii District of the Evangelical Free Church. Jayson's church planting training included the "Church Planters Boot Camp." This excellent training program is sponsored by the EFCA. Pray for Jayson and Rachelle and their three young sons, Christian, Jonathan and Aaron (click here to view family), as they serve the Lord at Maui Community Church in Kahului, Maui.

CHURCH PLANTING IN JAPAN

In October 1998, Pastor Rick and Jonathan Wong took a "Vision Trip" to Hong Kong, Macau and Japan, led by Howard Plucar, East Asia Director of the Evangelical Free Church Mission. Out of this trip came a burden to partner with a church plant of the Evangelical Free Church in Japan. In April 2003, Pastor Rick led a team for a ten-day mission trip to Fukuoka, Japan, where we are now in the process of partnering with the newest church plant of the Evangelical Free Church of America International Mission in an area just west of Fukuoka City.

This new church plant is called the Itoshima Evangelical Free Church. It is located in a community of 67,000 people with 50 known Christians. The missionaries there are Bob and Joan Verme, Duane Dietze, and Andy and Lorna Gilbert. See Church Planting in Japan.
