Theme of Genesis

Genesis has been called "the seed plot of the Bible," because every major doctrine of the Bible is found in seed form in Genesis. Genesis tells us that there is one true and living God who created all things (Genesis 1). Every human being has great dignity, value because we are made in God's image (Genesis 2). But we are fallen creatures who have sinned against our creator and need a Savior (Genesis 3). God's first promise of a coming Savior is found in Genesis 3:15. This promise was made to the whole human race not just one group of people. In Genesis 12:1-3, God revealed to Abraham that the promised Savior would come through his line, and that through him all nations of the earth would be blessed. That wonderful promise is fulfilled in Jesus the Messiah. He is the Savior of the world. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).
