"Is God First In Our Hearts?"
THE FIRST COMMANDMENT
Exodus 20:2-3
Dr. Rick Bartosik
Mililani Community Church
March 16, 2003

And God spoke all these words, saying: I Am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before me."

INTRODUCTION:

The greatest challenge in all of life is to keep Him first. He wants to be your all-consuming passion. He wants to be number one in your heart and life.

Our Number One Task As Believers Is To Make Sure That Nothing Comes Before Him In Our Priorities, In Our Plans, In Our Affection.

Revelation 2:4

Proverbs 3:5-6

Proverbs 14:12

Why Does God Make Such A Big Point Of Having No Other Gods Before Him?

Answer: He wants to be your God. He knows that no one loves you more than He does and no one or nothing can care for you better than He can. The things of this world will turn to ashes in your hands and leave you even more empty and disappointed than before. You were made for Him.

What Happens When I Make Sure That He Is First In My Life?

Confidence will replace fear and worry in my life.

Psalm 56:3

I Peter 5:7

It will make an impact on the people around me.

I Peter 3:15

Conclusion: In light of what Jesus did for me, why should I ever want to put anyone or anything in front of Him? Why should I tolerate other gods in my life or look for other saviors, or serve lesser lords? "LORD give me the grace to love You every day as You have loved me."
